Lask week a team from TTI instructed a group of 25+ national security professionals on key Strategic Design Approaches (SDA), a suite of methodologies designed to mitigate risk, align resources, shape the environment, and develop opportunities for action.
Understanding how to address complex, interdependent “wicked problems” requires adaptive strategies that account for challenges like countering emerging disruptive technology, preventing proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), balancing great power competitors, and adjusting to new policy implementation.
The course offered a structured, immersive SDA experience working through a present-day national security challenge to develop pathways forward for the USG. The course taught problem framing using systemic evaluation of the environment, Risk Prioritization & Mitigation (RPM) through the examination of future-based risk to mission, assessed program alignment to organizational goals through Gap Analysis & Prioritization (GAP), and utilized Opportunity Analysis (OA) to promote actions to reach a desired environment.
